I was researching Dex-Cool and ran across this from consumer affairs.
DEXCOOL LINK (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/gm_dexcool.html)
I contribute the deterioration of my orings in my head gaskets to Dex-Cool. Im probably going to run standard coolant with a 50/50 mix with distilled water from here on. There was coolant gummed up all in my heads and block, it was nasty.
Peace

I've found if your cooling system is compromised in any way -- as in ANY foreign crap -- it gets nasty, quick. Dexcool isn't as forgiving as regular ol' green stuff.
Make sure you completely flush with water before switching though, green and orange make a sticky putty.

I'll second that. I had a guy that didnt flush his system completely and in two days he had oatmeal consistency and by the end of the week he no longer had a truck. I have noticed in all my mid to late 90's cars that the fluid usually turns a dark tan or brown color fast and it doesnt mater what I do to clean it. now in my later trucks I havent had any problem but I noticed that they are now using the pink stuff instead of the old orange dex cool. I talked to a gm tech and he said that they where having a lot of people having a chemical reaction with the orange stuff, they would flush the complete engine, and add the pink stuff and everything seemed to be ok. I am not saying that is the answer just trying to share some of the stuff that I have been doing.

I never had any probs with it before, but it seems that it gels up when it is enriched with oxygen. Im going to run water throught the car for a good long while with some type of detergent before I switch to the green stuff.
I used to be a tech at a GM Dealership in Austin.
Dex-Cool is great in a clean, closed and sealed system. You really can go 100K miles without changing it.
but
If it gets anything else in it, does not get flushed properly, or has any problems in the cooling system you get the orange/brown/white sludge, which can be dealt with unless it dries. Whe it dries it is easier to replace stuff that clean it out, ( hoses, coolant reservoir)
I recomend Flushing with water hose, and then filling with distilled water, some coolant and alot of Water Wetter.

Seeing as how you only race the car, why not just run water with some sort of luricant like "water wetter" for the aluminum heads? Thats all I run in the car and it never gets above 170 with a stock rad. and electric fan and pump.

I'd have to agree w/ that statement. Back home for like the super comp cars and even some of the door slammers cars you couldn't even run coolant because of safety factor. For a basically driven track car i wouldn't even put coolant in it, but like daniel said just put that additive stuff in it, water on the back tires is a lot less forgiving then coolant.
